Frequently Asked Questions

How are you compensated (e.g., fee-only, commission-based, a combination)?

How we are compensated is based off the service we are providing you. Most of our compensation is fee-only whether it be a financial planning fee or an asset-managed fee for managing your investments. However, on the occasion we sell a commissionable product (such as life insurance, long-term care insurance, unmanaged brokerage assets) we are paid a commission either through the investment or insurance company. We believe in transparency around fees, so before pursuing any service or product, we’ll go through the appropriate fees associated with the recommendation.

What services do you offer?

We mostly offer financial planning and investment management services. We also provide specialized planning for those going through a divorce. In addition, we have access to a full brokerage to offer insurance products (annuities, life, long-term care, and disability) should the need arise for our clients.

What are your fees or the cost of your services?

Our Financial Planning fees are listed on the following page: Fee Based Planning
For investment management, we typically charge a 1% advisory fee that is discounted at higher investment amounts. For other products, any fees or commissions associated are discussed before pursuing.

Can you describe your financial planning process?

We believe in a holistic approach to financial planning. Think of your financial life as a jigsaw puzzle. There are many pieces to the puzzle – debt, income, insurance protection, investments, retirement, taxes, to name just a few. We want to put the puzzle pieces together in the most efficient way to give you a clear picture of your financial path forward. Our flat-fee process starts with a complimentary introductory meeting. We then move to Data Gathering, followed by a preliminary “rough draft” meeting. Finally, we move to finalization and implementation of the plan. This is typically a 3-4 month process.

We also have a subscription financial consulting program. This accomplishes the same goals as our flat-fee program, but takes the process in smaller bite-size pieces over a 12 month period.

How often will we meet to review and update my financial plan?

Our flat -fee financial plans come with a 6-month review after the completion of your plan. At the 12-month mark, we will discuss what updates are needed and at what point a new financial planning engagement is needed. Changes such as income raises, account value fluctuations, and minor goal updates do not require a completely new plan.  Should major life changes happen, a formal updated plan is recommended.

We also have a subscription financial consulting program. This accomplishes the same goals as our flat-fee program, but takes the process in smaller bite-size pieces over a 12 month period.

What information do I need to provide to get started?

For those in a financial planning engagement, we will provide a checklist of items needed. This list includes, but not limited to things like account statements, paystubs, debt information, estate planning documents, and social security statements.

For those engaged in our investment management services, we will need current account statements if a transfer or rollover is involved.

What type of clients do you typically work with?

We work with people in all walks of life. We have young professionals just getting started in their careers to individuals that are well into retirement. Our services are best suited for individuals, families, and small to medium-sized businesses.

Who will I be working with on your team?

You will have a lead advisor you work with; however, we believe in a whole-team approach at Vesta. You may hear from Connie, our office manager, for paperwork or maintenance issues. If you are in a Financial Planning Engagement with us, you will often hear from Mary, our in-house financial planner. If you are engaged in a Divorce Financial Planning Agreement, Elaine will be your main point of contact. The team approach ensures a consistent and thorough experience for our clients, as well as business continuity in case of emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.

Do you offer comprehensive financial planning or just investment advice?

Both! We meet you where you are and happy to help in the way that you need. We do believe that financial planning is critical to long-term financial success, but if your situation does not currently allow for the commitment of financial planning, we are happy to help in an investment management only capacity.

What are your qualifications and certifications?

We have various designations recognized in our industry, and many years of experience each working in a client/advisor relationship. Kate and Mary both have their CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. Elaine is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® which helps in navigating the difficult process of splitting finances and assets in a divorce. Kate also is a Certified Trust & Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) which helps navigate the complexities of trust management and estate settlement.

How long have you been working as a financial advisor?

Combined we have over 30 years of experience. Kate started as an advisor in 2010. Mary started in 2012. Elaine started in 2015.

Will I have online access to my accounts and financial planning tools?

Yes, account access is available 24/7 via online access. For those engaged in financial planning, there is also a personal planning website available to help manage goals, link up outside accounts, and keep track of your entire financial life.

What does it mean to be a fiduciary? Do you act as one?

A fiduciary is legally and ethically obligated to work in the best interests of the client(s). As a CFP® professional we must act as a fiduciary, and therefore, always act in the best interests of the client(s) when providing financial advice.

Will you work with my other professional contacts?

Yes, we often work with our clients’ professional contacts such as their CPA, attorney, and insurance broker to ensure that their financial goals are being met. We need permission from the client(s) before reaching out but are happy to do so to make sure everyone is on the same page.
